 Permit Requirements: A permit is required for camping in the Indian Peaks Wilderness between June 1 and September 15, and can be obtained as follows:
Reservations: Beginning on January 1 each year, reservation applications will be accepted by mail or in person (not by telephone) at the Boulder and Sulphur Ranger District Offices. The Forest Service must receive the application at least 2 weeks prior to the trip starting date. You will receive a response about 2 weeks later. There is a processing fee. | The Indian Peaks Wilderness is divided into 19 travel zones and each zone has a daily camping quota. In one of these zones there is no camping. In four other zones Designated Camping only is allowed. These are: Diamond Lake, Jasper Lake, Caribou Lake and Crater Lake. The permit must refer to a specific lake and the date. |
| Except for groups of more than 10 people, no permit is required for wilderness day hikers. All groups larger than 10 require a permit for day hiking as well as camping. Camping is prohibited in the Mitchell Creek and South St. Vrain drainages (west of Brainard Lake). For permits and further information, contact the USDA Forest Service. |
