Order Wasatch Front Map! |
The Wasatch Front has many unique geological features. There are numerous canyons opening up onto the Salt Lake Valley, and as you drive these canyons, you can see how the different layers of the earth were folded and thrust up. The different eras of geologic time are evident at different angles, and you can see the pattern of the repeated up/down orientation of the layers. Geologically, it is a very interesting area, and in the canyons there are many areas where the strata are exposed and one can find fossils from the various geologic eras. From the heights, you can also see the old shoreline of what was Lake Bonneville on the hills of the Salt Lake Valley. View a close-up view of a portion of the trail map. |
