How to Use Trail Tracks Maps

Trail Tracks illustrated maps provide all of the information you need to plan hiking trips!

Every map has trails organized it two ways - by trailhead and by difficulty.  To use a Trail Tracks map to plan your trip, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Use the map on the front side to identify what trailhead or trailheads you would like to start from.
  2. Use the table on the bottom of the front side to see the trails available at that trailhead and their distance, elevation gain, and difficult.  The table is organized so that the trailhead listing on the table is from left to right, just like the map.
  3. Choose the trail or trails you are most interested in.
  4. Turn the map over to the back side and learn more about the trails you are interested in.  The trails on the back are organized first by difficulty (Easy, Medium, and Difficult), and then alphabetically by trail name.
  5. Check on the local parking or permit requirements for your selected hike or hikes using the National Park or National Forest contact info on the back side of the map or their website.
  6. Bring your Trail Tracks map and a detailed local map (USGS topographic map or similar) with you on your hike!
